By Angela Barnes

Crossbreeds usually require a lot of care and guidelines. This particular one though is small and cuddly. It is generally a happy dog with little shedding and lots of affection. Everything about this little dog makes it a perfect pet for children. Therefore if one comes across a cavachon puppy for sale, they should consider taking it. However, it is important to have some information before hand.

They are very small and adorable. People like to feed them treats and all sorts of things. Therefore, they might be heavier than the standard. The standard is 13 inches at 20 lbs. They have strong limbs and broad backs. When buying check the nose. A short nose might be indicative of a future with respiratory issues. Therefore proceed with caution if the muzzle is a little shorter than desired.

People like pups they can train easily. A pup that will not mess things up in the house. One that might not even warrant a professional trainer. This particular breed is very eager to please and is therefore easily trained. With a lot of positivity and rewards, they can keep their focus for a long time.

Lack of exercise for a dog can be detrimental fro a dog. Do not keep him holed up in the crate all day. It understandable that some days are too messy to go out for a walk. In that case, just let him chase around a ball or toy in the hallway. This pup is so small they need very little space to be happy and active.

Provide a balanced diet. Also ensure not to over-feed the pup. As mentioned before, they are prone to weight gain. They are low shedders but grooming is still necessary. Brush the coat twice or thrice a week. Give him a monthly bath and maybe a spa treat. Trim him regularly. If not taken care of, the hair around the eyes might grow and cover them. Therefore train the hair to grow in the opposite direction. This can be done by using a wet cotton bud once a day to smooth in the desired direction.

If a seller is trying to sell his or her pups before they reach the required age, run. Do not be told otherwise. Do not be duped. Run. Possibly even report them. A pup should not be sold before it has reached 8 weeks of age. In some instances, 12 weeks is required. A better deal would allow return within 48 hours after a check with the vet. Otherwise as long as all vaccinations have been administered all is well.

It is only prudent to ask to see the mother of the pup. This is necessary for two reasons. A look at the mother gives insight into the temperament of the pup. One should also ask about the age of the mother. It might be necessary to find out how many times the mom has given birth. If the breeder is one of those transparent types, he or she will provide this information without prompting.

Microchips are absolutely necessary for all pets. They are a form of identity. This chip has information on the owner of the dog and other necessary information in the event of loss. The pup should therefore be microchipped before leaving the premises or one should go straight to a vet for this after the transaction is complete.
