The Particularities And Caveats In Breeding Exotic Cats

By Martha Hill

Adventurous pet owners do away with the tamed and domesticated trope and go for animals that have feral and wild as their hallmark. And so they go for upgraded dogs or birds or fishes. Some are also Breeding Exotic Cats Nebraska.

Anyway, there are all the caveats to keep in mind along the channel of this topic. Wild animals are good all on their own, but as human pets they just dont jibe well. Fanciers should keep in mind that wolves are not dogs and tigers and lions are not house cats. These distinctions are important. And pretty much elementary.

First off, for stage setting, lets establish the definition of a pet. In its basic sense, these are domesticated animals that are kept as companions. A wild animal, on the other hand, has otherworldly instincts and a mind of its own. It can keep itself well and alive, and if caught in captivity, human interference is most likely bane than boon to them.

The most crucial point for consideration, however, is that they just cannot be made to adapt to the ways of human life. This can be trying for both animal and owner. We have seen the patterns and trends again and again with servals, caracals, lynxes, bobcats, and ocelots. There are also the ethical ramifications, because attempting to domesticate them shakes up the fragile ecosystem, and legal concerns, since, anyway, theyre illegal to keep as pets in most states, including Nebraska.

If you are not ready to give up the exotic factor, however, you will just have to settle for a travesty. Crash that, it might actually be better than what youre hoping for. If youve ever heard of the Bengal cat, youll get the drift. These feline fur balls were bred from the wild Asian leopard and the domestic shorthair cat. It was unintended, by all means. But the unintentional breeder was surprised because the result was a wonder of wonders, a wildcat looking feline with all the innate qualities of a housecat.

With their luxurious coat dotted with rosettes, spots and stripes, plus their larger than average size, they look feral and formidable. But dont be fooled though because theyre domestic all throughout. They are everything you can wish for in a pet. Energetic, playful, intelligent, and sociable. Endearingly, they also have this uncharacteristic love for water. So they may crash in your bathroom and even wreak havoc with aquariums. They also have this peculiar and original meow, which may sound somewhere in between a meow, hiss, growl, and chirp. Most endearlingly, they dont like to be left alone for long because theyre too attached with their human.

However, they can be a bit pricey. One cat fancier bought her own Bengal for fifty thousand dollars. Perhaps that is why theyve been dubbed as the Rolls Royce of feline companions.

When choosing a breeder, establish that he or she is certified. This will ensure the health and the desirable disposition of your cat. Your feline must have the proper vaccinations and medical attention when it comes home to you. And also, there are all the papers and certifications from the CFA and TICA, establishing the parentage and authenticity of its breed.

Owning a pet may all be for companionship or pleasure. What is not often considered is that it is also a responsibility. So one should be pretty invested and committed once he decides to take care of one.
