There are many things to consider when searching for a special pet. There are pros and cons for each breed. It just depends on what you want and what you are willing to undertake. Searching for English bulldog puppy for sale is just the beginning. Before making the commitment to take on this breed there are many considerations, both pluses for this breed and minuses.

These dogs were not breed as pets in the beginning. They were used and breed for bull-baiting, as sport were the dog was to grab a bull by the nose and hang on. They were thus prized as being ferocious and tenacious, staying attached to the bull and not letting go.

This sport became illegal in 1835 so the breeding of this dog leaned toward a gentle and loving dog. This has mostly became their personality trait now. The body shape was also breed for change to look like they do today, which was quite different in the past. For lovers of the breed, they are very appealing.

The English bulldog is a medium sized dog, weighing around 40 to 50 pounds. They are very stocky, with a mouth formation that has been selectively bred over the years. His protruding lower teeth give him a somewhat humorous but endearing look. His coat is short, strait, and glossy. He does not shed but very little, and that mostly seasonal.

For the person who is not very active, this makes an excellent dog. He does not require much activity, in fact at times it can be harmful to them. They are quiet, not barking much. These two characteristics makes them very suitable for apartment life. They only require a daily easy walk. With supervision, they are good with kids and with other dogs. Of course, all dogs need supervision under such situations.

Both straight tails and curly are a feature of this breed. Dogs with curled tails have a lot more issues with health and a more grooming needs. Dogs with straight tails have some, but far less issues, however. The attractiveness of these dogs to people who are partial to them may make it feasible to consider them anyway, with the willingness to take on these problems.

Though bulldogs don't have many major health issues and care concerns, they do have some issues. These are mostly skin problems due to the many folds in their skin, which contribute to skin infections. They also have dental issues due to the shape of their teeth and jaws. This requires daily inspection of the mouth and cleaning of the skin folds. Any odors may indicate infection that require treatment.

The curly tail, though attractive, can cause feces to become trapped and needs daily cleaning to prevent infection and odors. There is a very serious health with the curly tails. Due to spine defects associated with it, they often have a condition called Hemivertebrae. These malformed spinal bones associated with it can cripple the dog and cause significant pain. Surgery is also often required. This can cause increased care and expense for the dog.
