Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeders

By Margaret Murray

All Spaniel breeds have some common characteristics and all are really beautiful, but little ones such as Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are even more appealing than others. This is actually a toy breed, regarding the size, but also fearless and gentle little dog that makes just perfect family pet. Most Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeders take very good care about their dogs.

These little balls of pure pleasure grow to 12 to 13 inches and 13 to 18 pounds, and live usually up to fifteen years. Although all spaniels are kind of sporting in character, they are also really affectionate and loving. As the matter of fact, your dog's character will mainly depend on your own personality. If you are an active person, he will be more than happy to share your activities. If not, he will be equally happy sitting in your lap.

There is not much to do when it comes to grooming. Spaniels shed seasonally, and in these periods more frequent brushing is needed. In the meantime, once a week is enough. No trimming is needed, because these dogs should keep their natural appearance. The coat is really soft and silky.

Weekly brushing will be a great opportunity for you to check your dog for any lumps or anything strange. In fact, you should also use this opportunity for checking the ears and eyes, and to clean them if it is needed. This breed might have problems with dry eyes or cataract, and it's much easier to solve these issues if you notice any changes early.

MDV and so called slipping patella are also possible genetic conditions related to this particular breed. Later one is easily correctable by surgery. MVD is more serious, and, like with all other health issues, it is important to notice any changes early. In this case, it's much easier to solve possible problems. In any case, find a good vet and take your pet there every now and then, just in case.

As it was said before, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is really a perfect choice for families with children, because this little dog is simply great with children. He makes friends with other dogs and cats as well. On the other hand, these lovely toy dogs also make perfect companions. They have numerous qualities, and will adapt to their owners' needs. Their grace and elegance are certainly the plus.

As toy dogs, they don't need too much training, but will take any opportunity for more exercise. In any case, every dog needs at least one daily walk, it is important for his physical and mental health. So, your lovely pet will be happy to simply sit on your lap, but it doesn't mean that he wouldn't be happy chasing butterflies, as long as you are somewhere near.

When it comes to their food, as with all other similar breeds, it is highly important to provide high quality food in appropriate quantity. Feed your pet twice a day. Inactive dogs might get too much weight, and, in this case, reduce their meals a little. So, regular meals, daily walks, weekly brushing and vet checks, and that's all you need to do. In the meantime, enjoy spending time with your lovely little pet.
