Nowadays, men and women keep pets around for various of reasons. Some get it for companionship, others for security reasons, while some for more practical functions. For instance, blind people might get a guide dog to aid them in their day to day lives. Families also commonly adopt animals to keep as pets and treat them as part of their family.

Due to the special bond that has been established, witnessing or experiencing a death in the family can be especially hard. Since pets have become part of your daily life and you consider them a part of your family, you will understandably feel heartbroken over their passing. Whether your pet has fallen extremely ill or has become weak because of their age, you are usually able to tell when they are about to die. Their health usually deteriorates, and they start to lose energy quickly, or may even refuse to eat their meals and drink water. During this period, find enough time to spend with them as much as you can. During this period, it is okay to feel blue and express yourself through various activities like crying or talking with a close friend about how you feel. Give yourself a period of mourning and to pay respects to your beloved companion.

After a certain time period, you will begin to accept their death and start taking steps to move on with life. While they may be gone, they will forever remain in your heart and give you comfort when you feel saddened. Remember, your pet took joy and pride when they felt you were at your happiest, which means you should try your best to do so.
